Apocalyptic Vision of Kenn Brown - World without US

Here are few of the art links "World without US" - these were done by Kenn Brown of Mondolithic Studios in British Columbia Canada.

I have taken a few screenshots from Alan Weismans "World Without Us" website (Funny as I read that, I often see that as a play on words: "World without U.S.").

World without Humans - videos

I've recently read Alan Weisman's "World without US", a book about what will happen to the earth with no people. I found the book when I was travelling in Europe this summer through Scientific American - there was an article with some very interesting graphics of what a fallen earth would look like. If you haven't read the book, I would highly recommend it - I mailed it out to a good friend of mine in Europe, so its one of the few books I have actually mailed out to mate!

Here is a link to the video from the site:

The History channel is also showing "Life without People", not sure if its inspired by Weisman or not, but here is the video link:

The following animation shows the deterioration of a house after humans are gone:

Isometric game engines update

I've added two new isometric game engines to the isometric game engines post: Buttermilk Game Engine, IsoEngine and ISOinteractive (STUDIO).

moonkiroeAs an aside, Blender was used to make the Mookiroe Game, a massive Online Role Playing Game in isometric 2D view, using 3D renders as sprites. The core game itself is developed using GameMaker with some C help. Looks kinda cool.

Steampunk Laptop

Steampunk is a form of fiction set in an alternate Victorian-era past. Richard Nagy is one such artist who modifies modern devices such as laptops, ipods, phones. His work has been featured in Wired, Gizmodo, Slashdot, The Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, the NY Times, BoingBoing, Make Magazine and countless other publications including features in Germany, the U.K., France, Belgium, Russia, Scotland and Hungary.

The Cost of a Long Life

Looking for a place in the world to live? Here is an interesting graph from the The UC Atlas of Global Inequality:

cost of a long life

I am not 100% sure how to interpret it - so if anybody understands the per capita spending (by individual or country?) let me know. Doesn't look too good for the USA in this particular chart.
